Urban
Environmental Institute (UEI)
The
Urban Environmental Institute is a non-profit based in Seattle with a
focus on advanced environmental science research and demonstration.
Mission: to develop and operate a model sustainable community
providing innovative solutions to environmental challenges through
collaborative, cutting edge scientific research and education.
The UEI was hired by Vulcan to complete a study on the feasibility of
advanced environmental design solutions for its commercial and
residential market developments in South Lake Union. The study
identifies design and technology solutions that will reduce the short
and long-term environmental impact of urban development and
construction in the neighborhood. Solutions identified within the
study promote urban livability and quality residential and workplace
environments, while preserving and enhancing the historical fabric and
economic future of the city. The study also considers transportation
and the regional economy.
